- Working on the award-winning news sites LJWorld.com, KUSports.com, Lawrence.com and others.
- Using Django, a python web framework, backed by PostgreSQL, Solr, Memcached and Redis to develop web applications for high-traffic sites.
- Designed and wrote a suite of social web applications powering the community health site Wellcommons.com
- Wrote a providing/consuming API for rich media integration called Oembed
- Behind-the-scenes optimizations like non-dogpiling caching tools for Django, out-of-process task queues, PostgreSQL tuning, and fixing lots of broken windows!
July 2008 - June 2009 Lazerpro Digital Media Group
- Worked primarily on developing new features for community portal StateCollege.com and creating e-commerce and brochure-ware sites for clients.
- Duties included designing, developing, testing and maintaining web applications written using PHP / MySQL, JavaScript and Ajax.
- Designed and developed an online food ordering system that does thousands of dollars per month in transactions.
- Rewrote several of the most popular features on the community portal, including classifieds, apartment listings, MLS, local news, and weather.
2008 Freelance
- After consulting with graduate teaching assistants at Penn State, designed and developed a sophisticated application to track students' grades and performance, called MyGradeBook
