I really wonder what it looks like and would like to give it a spin. Thanks.

DAE have bold fonts in reddit with Firefox+Ubuntu? [help!]
September 5th, 2010 6:39p.m. | Reddit (RSS)
Here's how reddit looks on Arch Linux: http://i.imgur.com/JqsLC.png
Here's reddit on Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 Beta: http://i.imgur.com/Cp8Er.png
Reddit is not the only site that displays fonts differently. Here is a list of things I tried so far:
Installed 'ttf-mscorefonts' and a few other font packages like 'ttf-bitstream-vera', 'ttf-dejavu-extra' and 'ttf-opensymbol'.
I'm using 64bit 'Firefox 3.6.9' on Arch and Ubuntu, same hardware. In Firefox I went to: Edit -> Preferences -> Content Tab and made sure both had the same things. The 'Allow pages to select their own fonts' is checked.
I'm using 'Gnome 2.31' and went to: System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Fonts (tab) (and -> Details...) and changed Ubuntu's default values to Arch's values.
Googled a bit and failed. Most people want Ubuntu's fonts on Arch, there's also a few packages on AUR with Ubuntu patches for fonts.
Made sure both had the same: /etc/fonts/fonts.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf and ran 'sudo fc-cache -fv' and rebooted. I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver 256.53 for my Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB.
Anyone having the same issue ...
Running Ubuntu 10.04 and can't get HDMI audio from Radeon x1200 card.

I'm REALLY new to Linux and have no programming experience. I wiped Vista off my laptop because it was basically making the machine a POS. Ubuntu has fixed all of my performance issues but left me unable to play audio through the HDMI port. I tried the forums, but they are all over my head. Can anyone help?

Ubuntu 10.10 Beta - Quick overview after 2 days of use
September 5th, 2010 10:48a.m. | Reddit (RSS)
I just wanted to give a bit of an overview for those thinking of upgrading to Maverick Beta. I'm running 64bit on a Vostro 1500 with GeForce 8400M GS. I have continuously upgraded this laptop from Jaunty, each time going to a Beta. I have a couple PPA's installed and some other sources (Dropbox and Wine, both working fine)
Here's the issues I've run into so far, no bugs submitted (yet) * On boot, it 'hung' at the Ubuntu logo with all the orange dots filled. It still responded to a ctrl+alt+delete but I couldn't get a login screen. Ended up booting to a shell and trying to xinit which gave me a message about ABI compatibility and so I need to add this to /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "ServerFlags" Option "ignoreABI" "on" - Next up, I have a ZTE-MF636 3G Modem (Bigpond NextG turbo in Australia). In Karmic, it would show up as a CD, I would eject the CD and then it would act as a modem. In Lucid they fixed this by adding an 'auto-flip' mode. In Maverick, I didn't get shown a CD and the modem wouldn't work ...
I successfully got Ubuntu PPC 10.04 to run on an old iBook G4

Yay me?
It was a fucking challenge. Not installing it, but the reason I had to was because the old HDD died. SO I had to replace it (which was difficult) and then install Ubuntu (which was easy). Unfortunately, I lost the ability to use my trackpad during the replacing process (that cable would not go back in). Oh well.
